In order to protect the City's investment in its infrastructure, it is necessary to regulate the weight of vehicles traveling over the roads, especially during the freeze/thaw cycles of early spring. When such conditions are identified by MnDOT and/or the City Engineer, seasonal restrictions are imposed until the danger of frost break-up is past.
In order to facilitate the necessary movement of commercial vehicles (moving vans, unusual delivery, etc.) and especially for construction related equipment, it is necessary to permit overweight vehicles over certain City roads on a case-by-case basis. Such permits are at the sole discretion of the City Engineer.
To obtain a temporary Overweight Vehicle permit, an owner or representative must complete the necessary application and pay the required fees at the City of Plymouth, Engineering Division, 3400 Plymouth Blvd. The phone number is 763-509-5500. Applications are not accepted by FAX or email. Permit fees are $20 for each day of operation and must be paid in advance.
Any damage caused to City of Plymouth streets, including those under permit, are subject to repair costs by the vehicle owner if such damage is from that activity. The Plymouth Police Dept. has the authority to stop any vehicle that may be overweight and require proof of permit.
