Plymouth has a paid-on-call Fire Department with an authorized strength of 78 firefighters working out of three strategically located fire stations as well as a full-time fire chief, deputy fire chief, two fire captains, a fire safety technician, an office support representative and a part-time public safety education specialist. The City staff also includes two fire inspectors in the Building Division.
Each year, the department responds to more than 1,400 calls, including all types of fires, emergencies, auto accidents, medical and mutual aid calls to other communities.
The Plymouth Fire Department offers an extensive public education program aimed at preventing fires. In addition, the department offers several programs to enhance child safety and prevent childhood injuries. Among the department's most popular activities are its annual Fire Prevention Open House and sales of low-cost bicycle helmets each summer.
